![]() The image is also slightly fuzzier than in normal mode since it has been enlarged.ĭeterioration in image quality is inevitable if anything other than the "native resolution" is used.Īs we have explained, when something like full-screen display or enlarged display is used to display an image on an LCD at a resolution other than the recommended one, it can be necessary, for example, to use two pixels to display data that should be shown with one dot. As a result, a circle, for example, is displayed as a horizontally elongated oval. This means that the image's aspect ratio, which should be 5:4, has been changed to 16:10. With full-screen display the horizontal 1280 rows of pixels are displayed as 1920 rows, and the vertical 1024 rows of pixels are displayed as 1200 rows. The image is also slightly fuzzier than in normal mode since it has been enlarged. By doing this the image is not distorted but black areas are produced at the left and right since 420 horizontal pixels (1920 – 1500 = 420) are not lit up. In this case the vertical 1200/1024 is enlarged 1.171875 times, so the image is displayed using 1500 horizontal rows (1280 × 1.171875 = 1500) and 1200 vertical rows of pixels. At that time 640 horizontal rows (1920 – 1280 = 640) and 176 vertical rows (1200 – 1024 = 176) are not lit up so black areas are created at the top, bottom, left and right.Īn enlarged display means that the image to be displayed is enlarged while preserving its "5:4" aspect ratio. In other words, 1280 horizontal rows and 1024 vertical rows of pixels are used to display it. In normal display (same magnification) the image with a resolution of 1280 × 1024 is displayed with that number of pixels. When a 1280 × 1024 image is displayed on a monitor with a native resolution of 1920 × 1200 Then what happens if an image is displayed in a different resolution from the "native resolution," and in particular what happens if that resolution has a different aspect ratio to the "native resolution"? Let's consider a case where a "1280 × 1024" (horizontal : vertical = 5:4) image is displayed on an LCD monitor with a native resolution of "1920 × 1200" (horizontal : vertical = 16:10). The "number of pixels", or put another way "the number of points that light up", in an LCD screen is decided, and this "number of pixels" is the "native resolution." For example, this means that a monitor with a native resolution of "1920 × 1200" lights up, or turns off, 1920 horizontal rows (dots) and 1200 vertical rows (dots) of pixels to display images. The "native resolution" is written in a monitor's specifications, but what exactly does it mean? What happens if images are displayed at a resolution other than the "native resolution"? In particular, you can't help wondering what happens when an image is displayed in a resolution with a different aspect ratio. In other words, poses start from a relaxed position that accommodates mesh stretch and collapse more-or-less in all directions. The " T" stance is useful as a starting point because the mesh is generally positioned at its most relaxed, there are few kinks or distortions, especially under the arms, at the elbows or knees, pinch-points where the mesh can collapse when over-manipulated. This is the 'base' pose for both female and male avatars from which all poses are made.ĭesign note: why a " T"?. It's this information that's subsequently exported out to FBX and used in IMVU as the triggered action (static or animated. Here a representation of the female or male avatar is presented (in separate files for clarity) such that they can be manipulated and posed like an action figure, the limbs being controlled by an underlying skeleton whose joints can be bent and articulated so that, along a chain of bones that are linked together, a leg can be shown to 'kick' or arm 'high-five'.ĭesign note: poses don't add or remove material to/from the avatars meshes or skeleton but instead simply register the position of (Armature) bones. This could likely be reduced a bit by adding some quality rubber feet to the bottom of the compressor or setting it on a padded garage mat. However, despite being the lightest of the bunch, it's also the loudest on the list with a decibel level of 99. With a small three-gallon tank, this compressor is highly portable at only 15 pounds. Harbor Freight's McGraw hot-dog air compressor is ideal for those on a tight budget who still want the convenience of pneumatic power around the garage. We then hooked up a 1/2-inch Craftsman impact wrench and proceeded to take off as many lug nuts as possible, ending when the usable capacity was depleted.įinally, we assessed noise levels with a decibel meter, while ease of use, portability, and additional attachments were also taken into account to select the best portable air compressors. Testing the usable capacity, we filled each compressor to full capacity and disconnected the power. We assembled and weighed each air compressor model, complete with attachments, then measured the time taken and maximum psi achieved to fill each one from empty to full. The optimal choice for you depends on your individual needs and circumstances. Remember, no single air compressor is best for every task. If you're using your compressor in a residential area or enclosed space, consider a quieter model to keep the peace and protect your ears. Compressors can be surprisingly loud, and high noise levels can be damaging to your hearing (and bothersome to those around you). With one of the portable air compressors spotlighted here, you'll get the best of both worlds, with the ability to power small pneumatic power tools and pump up inflatables on the go.ĭon't overlook the volume of the air compressor. On the other hand, for intensive tasks such as powering pneumatic machinery in a workshop, you'll likely require a larger stationary unit. If you only need a compressor for on-the-go uses like roadside tire inflation, consider a smaller handheld model. Portability and size are also essential factors to consider. Higher psi ratings allow you to inflate tires more quickly, while a higher cfm rating means the compressor can power more tools simultaneously. These are measured in pounds per square inch (psi) and cubic feet per minute (cfm), respectively. ![]() Pay attention to the pressure and volume of your prospective air compressor. ![]() However, gas-powered models provide powerful performance when electricity is unavailable, such as at remote job sites or during roadside emergencies. Electric models are usually lighter, quieter, and easier to maintain, making them suitable for indoor use. Whether you're a seasoned pro looking to upgrade your garage or an enthusiastic home mechanic in need of your first compressor, we've got you covered. The chain required clerks to wear company-provided uniforms and used efficiency experts to help clerks complete their specific tasks. He established the Piggly Wiggly Corporation and issued franchises to numerous grocery retailers, implementing several levels of standardization within his stores. Saunders patented the self-service grocery store in 1917. Piggly Wiggly carried nationally produced brands and attracted many customers by capitalizing on national advertising. With their products displayed next to those of competitors, suppliers had to set their goods apart through eye-catching packaging and advertisements. Saunders kept manufacturers on their toes, too. The cash-and-carry policies also eliminated store credit and delivery services for customers. By allowing customers to serve themselves and clearly marking the price for every product, Piggly Wiggly enabled patrons to examine and compare items without the pressure of a clerk’s gaze. Saunders knew that, when customers saw more, they bought more, and his store designs and the self-service concept capitalized on the customers’ impulsivity. In the earliest versions of the store, customers entered a turnstile and were led through the store along aisles of shelves neatly displaying every product available. Piggly Wiggly did not simply revolutionize the grocery shopping experience for consumers it also revolutionized the way other businesses had to market their products. Although other chain stores kept prices low through volume sales in several locations and cash-and-carry policies, Saunders anticipated that Piggly Wiggly’s lower prices combined with the faster sales pace of self-service would result in more customers and more revenue. If customers served themselves and then presented their items to a clerk for price-totaling, packaging, and payment, Saunders believed that his stores would need fewer employees, thereby reducing operating costs. ![]() ![]() Saunders developed the business to overcome the high costs of operation and the excessive amounts of credit maintained by customers at traditional grocery stores.
